Dr. Animesh Petkar is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in treatment and surgery of vitreo-retinal diseases. Dr. Petkar received his Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. He earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, graduating cum laude with honors. He completed his internship at Thomas Jefferson University Medical Center followed by a three-year residency in ophthalmology at Howard University Hospital in Washington D.C. Dr. Petkar went on to complete two years of fellowship training in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the Vitreoretinal Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. Petkar’s primary interests are intraocular lasers and vitreoretinal surgery. He specializes in the management of advanced diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, age-related macular degeneration and retinal detachment. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Petkar has been involved in a number of research projects, including laser photocoagulation for diabetic retinopathy and intraocular anti-angiogenesis factors. Dr. Petkar is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Petkar was born in Pune, India and came to the United States at the age of 10. He speaks multiple languages including Spanish, Hindi and Marathi. As an avid runner and swimmer, Dr. Petkar loves eating healthy and staying active in his spare time. He is excited to return to California and looks forward to discovering what the Central Valley has to offer.
