Top 5 Questions About Lip Injections

Posted on

Are you considering getting lip injections to plump up your lips for the summer? Before you commit to it, you should make sure you’re asking the right questions about the procedure and all that it entails. Here are our top five questions about lip injections.

1. Can I afford them?

This may be the most important question to some, and it is certainly relevant. Lip injections can cost anywhere from $550 and up. There is no clear answer to this question since it depends mostly on which product you and your doctor agree upon as well as the area that will receive the injections.

2. Are they permanent?

While many assume that they are, lip injections are not permanent. They can last anywhere between three to 18 months, which, again, depends on the product used. Juvederm, for instance, can last up to 18 months. Volbella usually lasts anywhere between 12 and 18 months. BOTOX®, on the other hand, only lasts between three and four months.

3. Are there any risks or side effects?

The most common side effects of lip injections are all temporary and should disappear within 2-3 days. These side effects include: swelling and bruising, bleeding around the injection sites and redness and tenderness at the injection sites. However, there are also more serious risks and side effects like infection, lip asymmetry, lumps and irregularities as well as injection into a blood vessel, which can cause loss of tissue. These risks can be avoided if you select a doctor that is board certified and has a high level of experience to ensure your safety through the whole procedure.

4. What can I expect from the procedure?

Getting lip injections takes almost no time! The entirety of the procedure usually takes about 15-20 minutes. Before the doctor begins injecting the product, a numbing agent will be applied to the site to ease some of the discomfort caused by the needle. Once the injections are made, you can expect to feel some discomfort in your lip area and will most likely experience mild swelling. However, after your lips have healed completely, they should feel as natural as they did before the procedure, but now they have a little extra volume!

5. How long will it be before I will see results?

Immediately! After about 24 hours of letting your lips settle as the swelling reduces, you should be able to see a noticeable difference in the volume of your lips!
