Injectables – KYBELLA®

About KYBELLA®

KYBELLA® (created by Allergan, the makers of Juvederm and BOTOX® Cosmetic) is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin by destroying fat cells and decreasing the appearance of a “double chin.” Once cells are destroyed, they can no longer store or accumulate fat.

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat. Fat cleared from treatment is processed through your body’s natural metabolism.

Recommended Use:

KYBELLA® is used to reduce fullness beneath your chin, giving you a more contoured profile. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. Fat cleared from the treatment area is processed through your body’s natural metabolism. Once the desired aesthetic result is achieved, further treatment is not expected.

Cost:

KYBELLA® pricing is based on the size of the treatment area. An average session ranges from $1,200 to $2,400. Most patients need two to three sessions every six to eight weeks to obtain optimal results.

Treatment and Results

To minimize discomfort, a topical numbing ointment is applied to ensure your treatment is as easy and stress-free as possible. KYBELLA® is administered with a series of injections into the fat under your chin. Injections are performed in the office with a topical anesthesia. The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes. The number of treatments needed depends on the individual and personal treatment goals. Up to six treatments may be administered, spaced no less than one month apart.

For most patients, downtime occurs mostly after the first treatment session. You should be able to resume your normal daily activities, but are likely to have swelling. Most patients experience tenderness and swelling for two to three days after the injection, which is well tolerated with ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication. Areas of hardness can be felt for two to three weeks after the treatment but are not visible.

No matter which injectable product you use, it is important that these procedures be performed by a trained professional to achieve the best possible result.
