Steven Shute, O.D., specializes in general optometry, contact lenses, treating eye infections, and foreign body removal. He was born and raised in the Central Valley, which made it easy for him to continue his family’s legacy of providing eye care to local residents. After graduating from Bullard High School, Dr. Shute joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for six years, focusing on radio communications. He then attended Fresno City College before moving on to Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon.
In 1974, he returned to Fresno and joined his father’s vision care practice, initially established by his grandfather in 1926. Dr. Shute worked with his father for eight years before the elder Shute retired, leaving Dr. Shute to take over. He then ran the practice for 45 years before selling to EYE-Q and joining the team. He is excited to continue caring for his long-standing patients in the Central Valley and work alongside his son, Dr. Thomas Shute, who is also continuing the family legacy as an ophthalmologist at EYE-Q.
When he isn’t in the office, Dr. Shute loves hunting, fishing, hiking, and snow skiing. He is an avid outdoorsman and is especially fond of the central Sierra Nevada Mountains. If he’s not outside, Dr. Shute is likely spending time with his grandchildren—or enjoying a peaceful nap after trying to keep up with them.
