Dominant Eye Test

Posted on

Do you know what your dominant eye is? Maybe you didn’t know dominant eyes were a thing at all! Your dominant eye is the eye that provides a slightly greater degree of input to the visual part of your brain and more accurately relays information about objects you see. Figuring out what your dominant eye is can help you understand what this means for the way you see the world. Plus, it’s a fun and quick test!

  • Extend your arms out in front of you and create a triangular opening between your thumbs and forefingers by placing your hands together at a 45-degree angle.
  • With both eyes open, center this triangular opening at a distant object such as a wall clock or picture frame.
  • Close your left eye.
  • If the object stays centered, your right eye (the one that is open) is your dominant eye. If the object is no longer framed by your hands, your left eye is your dominant eye.

Cool, right? Understanding which eye is dominant can help you perform better in many common activities such as photography, hunting and target shooting, and sports, such as baseball and golf.

If you are unsure of your results from this test, you can always find out more about your dominant eye from your eye doctor! It’s vital to the health of both your eyes and your vision to keep up with routine eye exams anyway.
