EYE-Q Strives to set an example of being more than just a business. We aim to be a business that stands out from the rest by showing how much we care about our community.

Our efforts were recognized by First 5 Fresno County when they awarded us the Child-Friendly Business Award. EYE-Q is proud to be a place that supports all families; including those of our own employees.

Along with all businesses, 2020 proved to be the most challenging period in our history. We were faced with a demanding, and unsteady environment in which we needed to continue to provide vision care to our thousands of patients while navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic. We adapted our standard practices to support social distancing, provide additional safeguards like masks and various levels of personal protective equipment for employees and patients, daily screening of all who entered our building, etc.

Some of our most creative work in 2020 was less noticeable and geared to supporting our workforce and their families in a time that was extremely challenging for all involved. As our employees with school aged children were suddenly required to provide distance learning for their children due to school closures we had to adapt by creating more work from home and part time positions.

To further support our employees with elementary school aged children, we raffled off 10 desk & chair sets to help provide a more “school like” environment at home. We used our internal website to share resources with our families, and provided helpful tips to help structure their children’s learn-from-home environment.

Our 2020 workforce shrunk due to many of our employees who needing to be home since schools were closed, while our demand for additional employees grew to support increased cleaning measures and screening at all of our entrances. We advertised the need for additional staff internally & externally, and as a result many of our new staff members were college aged children of our employees who were suddenly back home since in-person university courses were transitioned to virtual classes conducted via computers. To support the needs of this new and unique workforce we built a “ZOOM ROOM” equipped with desks, computer monitors, speakers, headphones and of course… snacks! Our college student employees now have the flexibility to work, and whenever necessary head into the ZOOM ROOM to “attend” their college classes. Many of the college students that began working with EYE-Q in April of 2020 are still employed here, still using the ZOOM ROOM and enjoying the benefits of a truly flexible environment.

In 2020, we also began an internship program that strives to provide our interns with a meaningful learning experience that will impact their professional career. We provided hands on opportunity for our interns and enjoyed mentoring them throughout their time with us. Of the dozens of students we hosted in 2020, two of them were so moved by the experience that they have decided to become doctors! The EYE-Q ‘Visionary’ Student Internship Program will begin its second year in 2021.

Several years ago, we wanted to refresh our Pediatrics department at our Clovis location with new artwork. We formed a partnership with Clovis Unified School District to showcase the artwork of their students in our clinic. This is a fun way to celebrate and promote the amazing talent of our community’s youth.

To further support our community, we routinely provide educational interviews, blogs, website articles, and email information regarding vision care for infants and children. Our educational outreach includes the importance of routine eye exams, providing tips to relieve eyes strained due to increased screen time, or smoky air, and the dangers of using costume grade contact lenses during Halloween.

Additionally, our doctors provide hundreds of free eye exams and glasses annually to children who attend the ‘Navidad en el Barrio’ event in conjunction with the Bautista and Tzu Chi Foundations in downtown Fresno. This annual event provides free medical services, clothing, resources, food and fun to the less fortunate members of our community.

As you can see, EYE-Q is committed to our patients, the youth of our community, our employees and their families. Thank you to First 5 for this award!
